Heritage Reimagined: Mangere Bridge Home Balances Classic Charm with Modern Splendor in a Stunning Expansion

This exquisite Mangere Bridge home is a masterclass in heritage rebuilding, renovation and restoration. The client had moved the original 1840s cottage onto the site some 15 years prior and once the family required more space, their love of the neighbourhood and local area compelled them to stay and architecturally rework the home, instead of moving. The footprint was tripled to create near 400sqm floorplan, which now features five bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The reimagined design of the residence was one that remained sympathetic to the character of its origins, yet expanded and reinvigorated it with the ultimate in stylish, contemporary fittings and finishes. A wide, high stud entrance hall creates a sense of moving through time, as the classic, more traditional portion of the home is at the front, then moves into the expansive new living, dining kitchen zones at the rear. These feature dramatic steel joinery and walls of glass, both internal and external.
The project was a hugely collaborative one, with 505 Construction working closely with the client from the very beginning. Both parties met the designer together 16 months before the build even began, in order to bring the shared vision to life in the most seamless and successful way possible. A lasting relationship has been forged between the client and 505 and they continue to work together today.
