9 Mewburn Avenue, Mt Eden
Build dates: May - September 2016
Locally renowned, this house is one of the Seven Sisters of Mt Eden. Seven masonry villas built in a row circa 1910, the first few houses in the area originally surrounded by farmland.
Nowadays most of the Seven Sisters have been lovingly restored and renovated for twenty first century living, and 9 Mewburn Ave is no exception. The owners primary intention is to modernise while paying homage to the house’s character and reputation.
Architecturally designed by Distill Architecture while maintaining heritage aesthetics, the renovation reshapes the exterior façade of the house, gable ends, dorma windows and roof. The rear of the house has previously been extended in 2014 with an award winning kitchen, living, dining and lounge.
The renovations have been ongoing for the owner over the past 3 years, and now 505 has been tasked with popping the top of the house to create a master suite bedroom, living and ensuite. There is also a second upstairs bedroom and roof reconfiguration.
505 has given special attention to the ornate ceiling in the front lounge. Our team worked carefully to preserve the large coffered plaster ceiling with its decorative scrolls leading into the chandelier ceiling rose.
Currently working on finishing details, 505 looks forward to releasing this beautiful sister back to her owners and their new life.
